What’s in Encore!!! mobile application and how is it used?
Encore!!! comes with a library that contains enough content to bring you to intermediate fluency level. It has about 3,000 unique words and about a similar number of sentences. Many of the sentences are part of a conversation on topics of everyday interest. You create playlists from this content. The text is vocalized in the native and the foreign language. The foreign language vocalization can be repeated up to 10 times and you can switch between the languages: for example, on one case, the native language first, then switch so the native language appears second.
The app includes 39 Lesson Plans organized into playlists. These playlists allow you to immediately start using the app. As you advance, you can create your own playlists with content from the library, or from outside sources.
One you’ve chosen a playlist, then select:
- how many times each entry will be repeated,
- the length of the silent pause between each vocalization (The pause allows you to articulate what you have heard so your tongue gets used to speaking new words and sounds) and
- a vocabulary breakdown of the words used in the sentence (if available for that entry).
Then tap play to start the playlist, listen, and say each entry aloud. Continue to play and repeat while doing other activities like walking, commuting, exercising, getting ready for work, etc.
During playback you can change the speed of what is played. You can also pause the playlist, skip an entry, repeat entries or repeat the entire playlist.
Learning a new word requires repeating it about a hundred times before it becomes absorbed into your brain.
Begin a new playlist with 8-10 repetitions, then as you progress, gradually reduce the number.
